Lead: Born of a silver strike, Tombstone, Arizona, was far more than the sight of an occasional gunfight.

Intro.: "A Moment in Time" with Dan Roberts.

Content: The San Pedro River meanders northward out of the Mexican state of Senora, through sections of southeastern Arizona. It flows northward into the Gila River which in turn joins the Colorado for the long run southward into the Gulf of California.

The San Pedro valley is the traditional home of the Chiricahua Apache. Their epic but futile resistance under Cochise and later Geronimo to the influx of miners and ranchers posed severe handicap to early settlement of the area.
