Dan Roberts: The Man behind the Voice

If anyone can be accurately described as a Renaissance man, it would be Dan Roberts, executive producer and host of the award-winning radio series, A Moment In Time. Created to excite and enlighten the public about the past, its relevance to the present and its impact on the future, A Moment In Time is a captivating historical narrative that is currently broadcast worldwide.

Roberts created the show in 1993 while doing historical commentary for National Public Radio. A Moment In Time immediately captured the attention of its audience, and Richmond's public radio station WCVE became Roberts' partner in producing the show nationwide. Within each two-minute segment, Roberts sets past events in their historical context. Each episode stimulates listeners in an effort to ignite a passion for history in today's "sound-bite" society.

After receiving a B.A. in history from Presbyterian College in 1969, Roberts served as an officer in the U. S. Army, which included a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star in 1971. In college, Roberts had begun training as a Presbyterian minister and he completed his professional education at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1974. In August, 1986, his work as a minister was recognized when he was invited to serve as Guest Chaplain of the United States Senate.

In 1990, Roberts obtained a Master's Degree from the University of Richmond, and in 1997, a Ph.D. in British and American Colonial History from the University of Virginia. He is currently an Associate Professor of History at the University of Richmond with teaching and administrative responsibilities in the School of Continuing Studies. He has also been a guest contributor and/or columnist for Education Week, USA Today, the Scripps-Howard Papers, the Virginian Pilot, and Media General's Richmond Times Dispatch, as well as a commentator for CNN and Fox News.

Roberts is president of Dan Roberts Enterprises, Inc., with which he produces and hosts A Moment In Time. In the past, he produced and hosted Climbing Jacob's Ladder: Milestones in African American History. These historical radio shows originate in Richmond, Virginia on public radio station 88.9 FM, WCVE, and are heard by over 2.5 million listeners each day on over 150 public, college, community and commercial radio stations throughout the United States, XM and Sirius Satellite Radio, Voice of America, plus 400 stations of the Armed Forces Radio Network worldwide.

In addition to being a Presbyterian minister, a popular jazz pianist and an avid reader, Dan likes to travel to interesting places in the world, doing research in his continuous quest to popularize history. Currently he is busy developing a newspaper column and has completed pilots of A Moment In Time for TV, both based on the popular radio show. Additionally, he has created other short video series including the 10 Minute Guides, Last Full Measure, 1968, Jamestown Journey, and Cuba. He also spends a great deal of time on the road as a popular speaker for corporations, organizations and national audiences.

Of all that he has achieved over the years, Roberts maintains his proudest accomplishments are his three children, Heather Elizabeth, Kathleen Taylor Hunt and Daniel McDonald Roberts III and his grand-daughter, Ava McKenzie Hunt.
